The world’s biggest passenger jet, the Airbus A380, is to make its debut landing at a UK airport next month.
The giant jumbo will fly into Heathrow at midday on May 18 and be stationed overnight at the purpose built pier 6 of Terminal 3, a £100 million facility that is a 280 metre long, three-storey high pier which can accommodate up to four A380s at a time.
During its UK visit, airport owners BAA and Airbus will be carrying out ground handling and airport compatibility trials, which will help to ensure that everything is ready for the aircraft's entry into service.
Airlines planning to operate the A380 at Heathrow include the first to begin scheduled services, Singapore Airlines, as well as Emirates, Malaysia Airlines, Qantas, Qatar Airways and Virgin Atlantic.
Thousands of people turned up at Toulouse Airport last year when the jet took its first test flight, and it is likely similar numbers will head to Heathrow on May 18 to get a glimpse of the A380.

I was fortunate to be on one of the very last flights from Dubai to New York. Better still I was in Business. This route ceased to be served by the 380 as Emirates believed that the passenger load would be better on Toronto - Dubai and I think BKK - Dubai.
The first class had 1 passenger, and there were perhaps 20 in business. The premium lounge had direct access to the aircraft, the flight very very smooth, the thingytail bar being a nice diversion from the IFE. Food good, and service good...so it should be...lol
All my recent EK flights have been 777 in economy, and whilst not as posh, have been acceptable.
Now the 380 is supported by many EU airlines, expect to see many more. Here in DXB, I saw 6 all parked at their gates a few mornings ago.
